The Sealer Verification Checklist — Eight Things to Collect About the Person
Stamp jobs go wrong behind brands: the firm was real, the website was polished, and the person behind the seal was never identified until the permit office asked. Collect these eight things about the human who will seal your set, and no stamp job can hide behind a logo again.
The Eight Items
- The sealing engineer's full legal name — the name on the license, spelled the way the board spells it. A brand name is not a name; a first name is not a name
- The license number and the issuing state — both public record, both given without hesitation by anyone actually holding them
- The licensed discipline, matched against your set sheet by sheet: which engineer seals which discipline, and where a second discipline's engineer takes over
- The board lookup result, run by you: status active, expiration current, disciplinary history read — not a screenshot the firm chose to send you
- The responsible-charge answer, in plain words: the person whose name is on the seal is the person who reviews the set — or exactly how supervision and review run if the work is prepared by the engineer's own team
- The firm's registration or certificate of authorization, where your state requires one, verified on the same board site
- The corrections channel: findings and fixes reach the engineer directly — you can ask the person a question about your set and get the person's answer
- Who answers for the seal later: when the AHJ questions a sheet, the sealing engineer responds — by name, as the engineer of record — not a support queue
